Carnival of BROS a City Paper Critic’s Pick!

August 25th, 2009

From City Paper:

AK-Slaughter

In just over a month, the Baltimore Rock Opera Society will premiere its first production, Grundlehammer. Tonight, the Society hosts the Carnival of BROS, a fundraiser for the opera with music from cabaret-electro artist Lizz King, good-vibe hip-hop duo AK-Slaughter, comedy, burlesque, a selection of songs from Grundlehammer by a group called the Hammered, and plenty more. Also, Brewer’s Art is providing the beer, and your ticket gets you two free drinks, which is just about cheaper than actually going to the Brewer’s Art

Plus a nice blurb from Metromix.

…Did you know that Baltimore had a rock opera society? Crazy awesome, right? Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) is raising funds for its first production, “Grundlehammer,” and its doing so with a not-to-be-missed event. Expect free drinks (we love beer!), scantily clad burlesque performers (we also love Paco Fish) and hip-hop tracks about sex (we really, really love AK Slaughter!)…..

A Call To Arms! BROS needs your sponsorship

Hey everyone!

I interrupt our normal programming for a brief pity parade.

Alright you may think it is all fun and games writing and producing an original fantasy rock opera of incredibly epic proportions, but it is actually going to be a huge challenge to put on this show on our limited/non-existent budget. We started this production with $500 granted to us by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and Arts. All other money we are generating entirely on our own steam. This show is going to be extremely Do-It-Yourself and will involve tons of scavenged and recycled materials,  all of our labor is donated by crew members and volunteers, most of the technical equipment will be borrowed, but we still have a woeful deficit in our operating budget to fill.

HELP US OUT!

Wanna support DIY community-based rock opera in Baltimore?  Click the paypal link below and shoot us a couple of bucks.  No donation too small!

Also, we are actively seeking local businesses for advertisment in the rock opera program, in the physical space where the show will take place (bannners etc) and to be included on our advertisements for the show itself.  Get in touch with our PR person Bonnie Veronda (Bonnie dot Veronda at Gmail dot com) to talk about an awesome and unique advertising opportunity.  Thanks, Aran K.

Now back to the rock!!

Rock opera brewed for many years

20-somethings promise laughs, gore and 15 songs in ‘Gründlehämmer’  by Tim Smith

“…brace yourself for an original rock opera called “Gründlehämmer,” currently in the early-rehearsal phase and scheduled for a premiere in October at a Charles Village venue. The project is nothing if not ambitious – five acts, 15 songs, a seven-piece band, a cast of about two dozen and the promise of lots of violence, heroics and humor.”
