The Baltimore Rock Opera Society is holding band auditions for our next production, Amphion – an all killer no filler retelling of our 2011 show from the BROS Double Feature.
Musically, the show is a mix of many different genres, with a rock band at the core. Some middle eastern influence, some classic rock, and some of something else! Ideally, members will be comfortable filling in with some auxiliary percussion (bongos, tablas, guiros, timbales, bells, shakers, etc...) or a second instrument. Let us know what you're comfortable with! If you can bring the house down with your didgeridoo, we want to know!
Following standard BROS format, the band for Amphion will perform live in conjunction with the show. We are looking for talented folks to take these classic BROS tunes and put a new spin on them.
Please note that this is a serious time commitment! From now until tech week, band members will be expected to take part in weekly rehearsals and practice at home. The majority of the music for the show is already written, but some songs may be updated or tweaked during the rehearsal process as well. Once we complete the music, we will attempt to record a full length album for release with the show and will most likely enter into a 2 rehearsal per week schedule.
Band auditions will take place in 15 minute time slots at BROS HQ (first floor of the Bell Foundry building, 1539 N Calvert St, Baltimore MD 21202). Our entrance is through the glass double doors on south side of Federal Street, east of Calvert.
Auditions are on the following dates:
Wednesday 2/17 - 6:30pm to 9pm at BROS HQ
Thursday 2/18 - 6:30pm to 9pm at BROS HQ
Please prepare 5-10 minutes of your best repertoire: sweet licks, badass beats, and room filling chords. We are looking for original compositions, but will also accept something by another band / artist that you feel best represents you and your style.
BYO instrument: there will be a drum kit available as well as amps.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Guitarists
Drummers
Keyboardists
Bassists
Strings
Auxiliary Percussion
Instruments We Didn't Even Know Existed
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Amphion is a tragic love story set in Constantinople in the year 532 AD. This sweeping dramatic epic sets a gifted musician against a political and cultural struggle. On the eve of a historic peace with the Persian Empire, a court musician to the Emperor Justinian finds himself torn between his patriotic duties and newfound love for a powerful ambassador’s daughter. Amphion’s supernatural songwriting ability swayed the people of Constantinople in wartime and won him the love of the beautiful Nasreen. Will it be enough to save him from a gore-filled fate?
