Five Companies Keep Opera Alive in Baltimore

August 18th, 2010

The BROS are ALL PSYCHED UP to be included in Baltimore Style Magazine’s State of the Opera article!

“Traditional opera, BROS is not. You will not find a classical orchestra or Italian arias. What you will find is an entirely local mixture of amateurs and professionals volunteering their time to produce affordable and “completely mind-shattering” entertainment.”

BROS Melts Face at Artscape!!!

August 5th, 2010

Rocking for all the world to see!

As of July 16, 2010, the Brothership has successfully been christened (it survived a hell of a beating/small fire on it’s maiden voyage), and will now proudly wave the BROS banner at all events, gatherings, parties, and religious/cult rituals that we are planning. We’re pumped to present the automotive embodiment of the spirit of BROS; an outlandish, in-your-face behemoth of unrestrained rock power designed to maximize audience participation in the most face-melting street performances possible!

BROS would like to wave the horns in recognition to everyone whose labor is behind this fire-breathing leviathan of doom:

–Jim Lucio, Visual Arts Coordinator at Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, thank you for providing BOPA funds and for letting BROS convince you that this was not only possible, but a good idea! (Also, you rocked the stage–thanks for threatening to disembowel all the small children at Artscape!)

–Holly Klemm, Curator of the ArtCar Exhibit and Parade, thank you for all of your hard work in making the ArtCars a major draw at Artscape, and for letting BROS run wild!

–Larry Klemm of Honest Larry’s Used Cars (443-280-1035), Finder of the modest looking 1988 Saab 900, thank you for your generosity in donating the car and your faith that we could turn even a 20 year-old European hatchback into a golden-winged stronghold of righteousness!

–Chuck Green Sr., protector of the Brothership, we can’t thank you enough for letting us store the car in your driveway during construction and letting us use your fine collection of tools. Also, a sincere thank you for making room in the fridge for enough beer to quench the entire BROS crew!

–All friends and fellow BROS who showed up, rain or shine, to lend their efforts toward the completion of the Brothership–and again to everyone who hung out at Artscape to partake in the fruits of our labor!

WANT TO HELP A BRO OUT?

BROS is looking for a permanent home for the Brothership. If you or any of your friends have access to a secure and dry parking space that could be donated to BROS for storing our latest 4-wheeled member, please email us at BaltimoreRockOpera@gmail.com! We’ll buy you a six-pack of the coldest, cheapest beer you’ve ever had!

Announcing: The Bröthership!

June 10th, 2010

So, those of you who got our email blast have already heard about the Saab 900 that is soon to be transformed into a mythical winged beast on wheels. The Bröthership will be a flagship of Rock n Roll and will represent the BROS mission to the general public.

Thanks to the generosity of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, BROS will be participating in the 17th Annual Art Car Show at Artscape this summer! Thanks to Holly Klemm (who is coordinating the Art Car and who owns the most excellent “Blue Hawaiian” art car) and Larry Klemm of Honest Larry’s Used Cars (call 443-280-1035 and mention the BROS for a hook-up!) who helped us get involved in the festival.

The Car is a 1988 Saab 900, and presents the BROS with a humble palette that we will make fly to ultimate heights. A few highlights of the design….

- A massive, glowing, smoke-billowing, horned skull will decorate the hood of the saab.

- The roof will be converted into a Castle Turret with Drawbridge. From these heights a demigod of rock will hold court and play some wicked air guitar.

- 12 Foot Wings of Gold will cover the entire length of the car, creating an approximate 20 foot total wingspan for the car in its truest form.

- Stained Glass will decorate the three rearmost windows.

Lots of other insane and hilarious features will be all over this thing.  We really are looking forward to this car being so epic and insane that you will fall over in laughter or in worship the moment that you see it.

Wanna help build it? Email baltimorerockopera AT gmail.com with ART CAR in the subject line.  We’ll let you know what we need and the secret location of our next art car meeting/build date.

Wanna help fund it? Boy are we broke! Any monetary donation would be HUGELY appreciated.  It will help us buy MORE LASERS, MORE LEDs and the other high-tech machinery needed to get this beast moving.  BROS prides themselves on doing HUGE THINGS with a small amount of money.  Your donation of $20 will take us many miles in this automobile.   Email baltimorerockopera at Gmail.com for business sponsorship opportunities.
